Aisin to Invest $23 Million

More growth is on the way for Aisin USA, Mfg., Inc. at its Seymour locations.

To support new and existing automobile models, Aisin plans to invest $23,052,450 at Plant 1 (1700 East Fourth Street) and Plant 2 (500 Burkart Blvd.) at the East Side Park, company officials announced in May.

“Aisin USA anticipates making expenditures … for new manufacturing equipment and renovations to existing equipment related to customer design change requirements and new model requirements for automotive components,” said Betsy Cornett.           At both facilities, Aisin USA employs 1,927 associates, and the investment will enable the company to retain those workers. Aisin is the 5th largest tier one automotive supplier in the world; Seymour was the location of the company’s first manufacturing operation in the United States in the late 1980s.

United Pipe & Steel Opening New Seymour Location

United Pipe & Steel, a leading distributor of pipe, will soon establish a new location at Seymour’s East Side Industrial Park.

At the June 26th meeting of Seymour City Council, it was announced that United Pipe and Steel had purchased the 60,000 square foot “spec” building and will begin expansion to the facility. The company projects hiring 9 employees at the operation.

The company distributes domestic steel pipe, globally sourced steel pipe, copper tubing, plastic pipe, electrical conduit and related products to independent wholesale distributor customers within the plumbing and heating industry; pipe, valve and fittings (PVF); heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC); waterworks; fire protection; pool supply; lumber yard; fence; steel service center and electrical supply markets. The company has 12 strategically-located distribution centers across the U.S.

Bob Martinolli, vice president of operations, attended the Seymour Council meeting virtually, and along with Jim Plump of JCIDC announced the company planned to add over 30,000 square feet to the building in addition to constructing new offices at the facility located at 6520 North CR 1000 East. Council approved 10-year tax abatement in addition to approving transfer of the existing abatement from Old Towne Marketplace, which had purchased the building from local developer TDAK.

In 2021, United Pipe & Steel became part of the Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co. family of companies, and states it’s mission as: “United Pipe & Steel aspires to be a best-in-class distributor, delivering a competitively priced and diverse mix of high-quality pipe products on its own fleet with the shortest lead times to wholesale distributors.”

Seymour Fire Department Scores an ISO Rating of 3

Seymour Fire Department Scores an ISO Rating of 3

We are happy to announce Seymour has retained its ISO Rating of 3 and is very close to reaching the Level 2 Rating.

The ISO Rating of a fire department is one of the benchmarks a department uses to plan for future development, purchasing, and staffing needs. It is also the rating most insurance providers use when determining the rates they charge their customers.

Seymour Fire Department has worked diligently over the years to obtain a rating of 3, which less than 15% of the nearly 40,000 departments in the nation that are surveyed have. We just received our score from our latest survey. Although we retained our 3 rating, we vastly improved our score, so much that we feel a 2 rating is obtainable at our next survey in 5 years.

It is important to note the ratings are ranked from 10 being the worst to 1 being the best.

The score is obtained from three sources. Seymour Fire Department’s response capabilities make up 50% of the score, the water system provided by Indiana American Water makes up 40% of the score and the 911 Dispatch System operated by Seymour Police Department makes up the remaining 10%.

We would like to thank our fire officers and firefighters for the commitment they make to constantly improve themselves, and certainly our partners at SPD and Indiana American Water for their efforts in providing top notch service to our community.
