A business that started in 2012 in a garage in rural Jackson County moved into a building on the west end of Seymour about four years ago.
Luke Langellier, one of the owners of S&S Diesel Motorsport, said he didn’t think they would outgrow that facility.
“For better or worse, we were wrong,” he said in a video released in late February.
In August 2025, the company purchased the former RR Donnelley building in the Freeman Field Industrial Park and has been renovating it ever since to become its new home. The 170,000-square-foot building sits on 12 acres of land.
During a meeting July 27, the Seymour Common Council approved a 10-year tax abatement for a $2 million investment in equipment and machinery. The project will begin in August and be completed by the end of 2027.
A tax abatement occurs over a 10-year period in which companies pay 10% more on taxes each consecutive year. Companies do not pay any property taxes on the improvements in the first year of a tax abatement.
The investment will allow S&S to maintain its current workforce and hire 10 new employees with total payroll of $800,000.
JCIDC Executive Director Jim Plump presented the abatement request on behalf of the company. Langellier and co-owner Jonathan Castellaw attended the meeting.
S&S manufactures high-performance common-rail diesel fuel systems, engine controls and pump conversions.
“Our business continues to expand, our team has grown to meet demand and we have something new in the works to help take S&S Diesel Motorsport to the next level,” the company posted on Facebook with the video in February. “A huge thank you to our incredible customers and dealers for the continued trust and support. Your confidence in S&S is what makes this growth possible.”
The new home is only a couple of miles away from the current location at 1471 W. Tipton St. and is a much larger facility. The building formerly housed a commercial printing press operation with a lot of industrial equipment.
While it will take a lot of investment, work and time to become move-in ready as a horsepower lab and fuel system manufacturing facility, Langellier said it’s definitely going to be worth the investment.
“I’m very passionate and excited about our future, and this is going to be a key part of the future growth of this company and more of the team that we’ve built here and continue to grow,” he said. “We get more and more horsepower all the time, adding more critical guys to the team, and what we really needed was a facility to support that. This is going to be it.”
