Educators visit Schneck, Walmart

June 10, 2026

By Zach Spicer

The Educator Externship is being offered to local educators again this summer.

For four different dates this month, local school staff members had an opportunity to sign up to participate. Each week, about 10 are chosen to tour two local industries. They find out what the company does and what opportunities there are for employment. The teachers receive a stipend after submitting a report about what they learned and how they will take that back to their school and help students.

The second day of the program was June 10. Seven educators spent the morning at Schneck Medical Center and the afternoon at Walmart Distribution Center, both in Seymour. Schneck is the hospital in Jackson County and also has medical offices in Jennings, Scott and Washington counties, while Walmart distributes merchandise to its retail stores and also has a truck driver training school and a truck maintenance shop.

JCIDC would like to thank both of these companies for giving educators an opportunity to learn more about what they do, and we thank the educators for participating in order to benefit their students.
