Seymour, IN Council Grants 2 Abatements

April 3, 2017

Cummins Inc. has plans to spend $2.28 million this year in capital expenses as part of its ongoing growth and expansion of the Seymour Engine Plant and Technical Center on Fourth St. in Seymour.

Seymour City Council approved 2 tax abatements for the company, allowing Cummins to phase in paying taxes on the investment incrementally over the next 10 years.

The first abatement is for $1.09 million in real estate improvements for changes to office, production and test cell areas in the technical center. The second is for $1.19 million for new manufacturing equipment for assembly, painting and production.

Work on the project is expected to begin in mid-May and wrap up by the end of the year.

The company currently employs 639 people.

Since 2010, Cummins has invested a total of $281.34 million in its Seymour facilities.

Council President Jim Rebber said he appreciated Cummins being in Seymour and what the company has been able to do for the city.

Plant manager Darren Wildman said Cummins also is thankful for the city’s support.

“It’s been a good working relationship and we want it to continue,” Wildman said.
